Gallery Assistant @ Jen Bekman Gallery (Nolita / Bowery)

New York City, NY • 08/21/2007

Jen Bekman Gallery is looking for interns to work in the gallery and blog their little hearts out (never blogged before? don't worry, we'll teach you).We can't pay you, but we'll a) buy you lunch and b) pay your subway fare to and fro. Interns work a minimum of 2 days a week, and you'll usually be asked to work 2 weekend days each month.

(Note: We do not offer weekend-only internships - you must be available at least one weekday per week.)

Regular gallery hours are Wednesday - Saturday from Noon-6pm. We're occasionally open on Sundays and we have evening events/receptions about once a month. We often do administrative work during off hours, and ongoing projects are done on a flexible schedule. (You don't have to be sitting in the gallery to blog, for example.)

Ideal Intern Characteristics:

* Organized, preferably obsessively so.

* A background, or at the very least a keen interest in fine art, photography + design.

* Intelligence, enthusiasm, a sense of humor. No, really, we mean it.

* Reliability

* Articulate (both writing and speaking)

* Professional: You have manners in person and on the phone, and can take a proper message.

* Writing skills: Grammar, Spelling, Style. We write a lot of stuff here at the gallery, and we'd love to have you pitch in.

* Flickr is your friend. You're no stranger to MySpace, or Facebook and you read way too many blogs. Blog (WordPress) and HTML skills are a major plus, and if you don't have the skills, you should want to learn them.

* Handy? Know your way around a hammer, a level, a cordless drill? How about a paintbrush? We love you.

Sound good? Send an email to internship AT jenbekman DOT com. Follow the guidelines below, and include your cover in the body of the email:

- Tell us what you're looking for in an internship, and what in particular about our gallery appeals to you.

- Use the subject line: ["Your Full Name Here" Internship Inquiry]

- Let us know when you can start and which days/times you'd be available. (Make sure this works with the gallery hours as described above.)

- Include your resume. (That can be an attachment, but please put your cover letter in the body of the email.)

Please don't be terribly formal. That's boring.

And yes, we're picky - boilerplate covers go straight to the circular file. Be original! Also, the guidelines are here for a reason, following them is important.

(Email please, no snail mail! And absolutely positively no phone calls.)
