Designer
New York City, NY • 08/21/2007
Big Duck, the leading communications firm in New York that works exclusively with nonprofits, seeks a designer with 3-7 years of employment experience in print and electronic media.
The candidate should be a self-starter, who is able to listen to direction and execute projects independently. The designer should be comfortable working on a wide variety of projects under regular, often tight, deadlines. He/she is extremely meticulous, detail-oriented, and able to present ideas to the creative team and clients.
Projects will include branding, visual, and identity work. This candidate has worked on campaigns and has the ability to think of the “bigger picture.” This Designer is also able to blow out a campaign throughout the spectrum, from print to online. He/she also has the ability to get into the mind and lives of the target audience, and design accordingly.
This Designer will work with the senior team to develop/create print materials, including identity design, style guides, brochures, annual reports, and more. It is important that this Designer be knowledgeable in web design, with a firm understanding of the latest web design principles, trends, and technologies. He/she must be mindful of what is possible within the scope of a project. He/she should be able to work at all stages of a web project through to completion – forming initial concept, creating a site map, designing pages, and collaborating with coders.
Responsibilities will include working on all aspects of design for any project (concept, design, production/mechanicals, press), defining and “policing” consistency of clients’ brands, taking direction from senior level creative team, and working on multiple projects at one time. This person is not afraid to get his/her hands dirty, and fully takes ownership of projects, however large or small.
Advanced-level skills in InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop are a must. Also, the designer must be knowledgeable in HTML and Dreamweaver and other related programming software. Experience working in Flash and GoLive is a plus.
An undergraduate major in design or communications is preferred, experience working with copy or copywriter desired, and understanding of the nonprofit sector a plus. The work of this designer is creative, efficient, and accurate.
Office is located in fashionable DUMBO in Brooklyn. You will be working as part of a small, talented, fun team, complete with two Mets fans, two Yankees fans, and several people who couldn’t care less. One person makes AWESOME tomato sauce (although that has yet to be proven).
