INTERNSHIP at Nationally Distributed Music & Culture Magazine (Midtown)
New York City, NY • 08/23/2007
New York Citys COOLEST Music, Art & Culture Magazine is seeking a few good interns for this upcoming school year.
We are looking for interns who can commit to approximately two to three days a week until May and who are looking to get college credit for their time and effort.
We are a publication that focuses on the best in mainstream and underground music, film, fashion, literature, art & urban culture. We cover many different kinds of independent music, ranging from hip-hop, R&B, rock, reggae, metal, jazz, folk and everything in between.
We are looking for intelligent, creative, hard-working individuals who want to be part of our ever-growing team. Ideally, an intern will have a desire to continue to work with our magazine after their internship is over, with the goal of becoming part of our editorial staff.
As an intern, you will be given the chance to work with an up and coming magazine that is quickly becoming established as one of the top publications in the genre today.
All interns will be given an opportunity to write and will receive published credits on both our webpages and print edition. You will also receive editorial guidance to help fine tune your journalism skills. All interns will be given the opportunity to conduct interviews with influential artists and will be able to expand their network within the publishing, entertainment, and art worlds.
All interns will also be required to help with the distribution of promotional materials and will be expected to tackle even the most mundane office tasks with the utmost enthusiasm. With the exception of the advertising interns, this is a non-paying internship. However, meals will be provided on days spent in the office. The following are the different types of internships currently available for the upcoming school year:
1. Hip-hop/ General office Intern - The hip-hop intern will work directly with the hip-hop editor to help maintain and establish relationships with record labels and publicists in the hip-hop community, as well as helping seek out and decipher what is story or review worthy.
2. General Music intern The music intern will work directly with the music editor to help maintain and establish relationships with record labels and publicists in the music world, as well as helping seek out and decipher what is story or review worthy.
3. A general arts & culture intern This intern will deal with a wide range of areas, not limited to, but including film, literature, fashion, graffiti, tattoo and photography. For anyone interested in this position, please specify in your cover letter which areas you feel you have the most amount of expertise in, citing specific examples.
4. A web intern The web intern will help with the maintenance and expansion of our webpages, and act as an assistant to our layout and graphic designers. A basic knowledge of html code, as well as a strong design sensibility, is a huge plus.
5. & 6. General Advertising intern and Music Advertising intern These two interns will be paid on a partial commission basis, as they will be aiding both the Advertising Director and Music Advertising Director with making phone calls, setting up appointments and following up with established contacts. Some sales experience is a plus.
Please send a resume and writing sample(s), as well as a cover letter explaining which internship you are interested in and what makes you a better fit for our publication than the 100+ other people who are going to respond to this ad. Hint we are looking for chill, unique, eccentric individuals who are very knowledgeable about a wide range of music and culture. We are looking for people who are willing to incorporate their role in the magazine into their everyday lives, helping spread the word and sticker the bathrooms of their favorite music venue or nightclub spot.
We will be setting up interviews over the next two weeks and are looking to start interns after Labor Day.
Best of luck and we look forward to hearing from you.
