We were in New York for the weekend and had a late dinner, wasn't hungry at the time for dessert but by around midnight I really wanted something sweet. We walked a few blocks and couldnt find anyplace open on a saturday night(strange to us) that was still serving dessert. We decided to go one more block and found this place. I have to say, best dessert I've ever had!!! The bartender was so friendly and even though the kitchen had just closed they still made us a molten chocolate cake, which was amazing!
I would definately recommend this place to everyone.
I know it shouldn’t surprise me since all wine bars in New York are small, but this place is smaller than I expected. Don’t matter though because it’s AWESOME. Really romantic atmosphere and great service. Our waitress made sure we got the best wine to go with our food, and knew a ton about the menu.
I actually asked for the gazpacho recipe I love it so much. Sadly, the chef wouldn’t give it up. I can’t be angry though. I wouldn’t want to give it up either if I could do it that well.
I went to this wine bar on a whim one day when I was passing by. It’s in a sort of strange neighborhood so I’d never heard of it before. But it looked really nice from the outside so I decided to head in. Turns out it’s one of the best wine bars I’ve seen. I was there at a weird time. I got there t 4:30 and they told me I’d have to wait to be able to order food, which was slightly annoying, but I wasn’t that hungry yet so I figured I’d have some wine and wait it out. The waitress was nice but she seemed a little frazzled. She was running all over when there really wan’t any need – there were very few people there. Anyhow, the wine was great when I was able to order food I had a pizza and a some sort of mushroom pita thing and some hummus and both really blew me away. It’s a nice place to go and nice to have something like that in a neighborhood that doesn’t have a whole lot.
My husband picked this place and had my girlfriends surprise me with a dinner for my bday. We were eight people and we took up a lot of space in that tiny place, but the waitress was great and really helpful. She must have had a tough time bringing us all flights and all, but we really had a great time.
I brought my mom for lunch and she was overwhelmed. I’d been before but my mom and sisters hadn’t. The waitress was really friendly and chatted with us, and when we asked about wines by the bottle she sent the manager down because she said he knew more. He was really nice too and recommended a good wine and some cheese to go with it. Then the waitress told us all about her favorite truffles. It was great that the staff seemed so enthusiastic about the place. My mom and sisters loved it as much as I do so it was a great pick.
I have been there a couple times, but I've seen the portions get tinier and tinier, and the prices are getting higher and higher. Well entrees are over $18. Especially the filet mignon, it comes as 3 or 4 little bites of meat. The stuffed chicken with sun dried tomatoes is also tiny. Tasty, though. I do love AYZA, don't get me wrong So nowadays we only go there on special occasions or if we are in the mood to indulge or if we are not very hungry and just want to relax. I would go more often if I didn't walk out hungry without ordering sides or appetizers. Oh yeah, this is another thing: they know the portions are small so they try to push appetizers, which is kind of annoying. Well to be fair, the beef panini can be satisfying, but it certainly won't fill anyone up.Very friendly staff and super cute decor. Great for romantic dinners. Wines aren't cheap either but they are very tasty and unique. I think they do a great job at AYZA overall. It is actually kind of hard to find a good wine bar in NYC. The portion size thing is the one and only drawback. I hope they work on this.
